UMMen Omaha District October 2005 Meeting Minutes

 

Omaha District United Methodist Men  Thursday, October 6th, '05 at Trinity UMC in Omaha.
                                                             Minutes
 
   Present - Scott Avery, Willy Lucht,  Trent Meyer, Don Mentzer, Richard Townsend, Dennis
Edwards, Ted Black, Terry Abram, Scott Herring, Randy Fleming, Dave Mendyk, Gary Spivey,
Bill Stambaugh.
   Prayer - Dennis led openning prayer. Levi Franklin of Union Memorial in La Vista has cancer
and was sent home.
 
   Election - Randy motioned that nominations cease and that the proposed slate of officers be
elected. Dennis seconded. Motion carried. Officers are as follows;
President - Bill Stambaugh  Vice President - Charlie Walcutt  Secretary - Dave Mendyk
Treasurer - Gary Spivey  Scouting Co-ordinator - Willy Lucht  Website Expert - Scott Avery
Prayer Advocate - Dennis Edwards
   Election stands for one year until next October.
 
   4 Conference Rally - on November 11,12,13 at St. Paul's UMC in South Sioux City.
Friday we're on our own for dinner and there will be one evening session.
Saturday we're on our own for breakfast, but will be served lunch and dinner.
Sunday we're on our own for breakfast, and will worship at St. Paul's UMC.
Local hotel rooms run about $65/night. Sharing of rooms and car pooling is encouraged.
Our Ne. Conf. Bishop, Ann Brookshire Sherer, will be the keynote speaker. Omaha District
President, Bill Stambaugh will also speak ! Travel by I 29 in Iowa is recommended.
   We hope to enable registration by using the Conf. website.
 
   Camp Fontenelle - October 10th will see the Main Lodge deck completed with Scott Lucht.
Don finnished the vinyl siding on the house but still needs 5 new downspouts to match in.
 
   UMMen Mid-Winter Retreat - on February 17,18,19 at Camp Fontanelle.
Rev. Karl Lent will be our Pastor for the weekend. Rev. Ralph Gaines will speak. Gary Spivey
will lead music.Saturday night will feature steaks and an Upper Room Remote from 4-10pm.
Rev. Teryl Otto will be asked to speak. Union Memorial Men will be asked to sing.
 
   Upper Room - Gretna UMC has asked for an info. meeting about Upper Room Ministries on
Oct. 17th, 10am. Would your Church like to know more about Covenant Prayer Groups, Upper
Room Prayer Line Remotes, Spiritual Growth oppotunities ?
 
   Fontanelle BBQ - Trent gave a warm Thank you ! for the help the Camp recieved from the
UM Men. The BBQ raised 13,000 dollars and fed over 800. Quilts were auctioned and pumpkins sold. Trent offered more pumpkins to anyone who would sell them and share with
the Camp.
 
   Bill shared that he had done this with a pick-up load and sent some proceeds to a UM Church in Gretna, Louisiana.
   Dennis spoke of a Mission trip to Louisiana that needed a CDL driver.
   Rev. Fred Richart is willing to speak to your Church about his Missippi Mission trip.
   Faith Westwood UMC has sent two Mission teams  "down South".
   Randy Fleming asked to be used as an auctioneer for local Church fundraisers.
 
   National Scouting Award - Willy Lucht will be honored by the Goldenrod Council and the
Mid-America Council with the highest volunteer award. A celebration will be held on Nov. 6th
at the Millard Legion Club.( Take old "L"street access, look North.)  A 6pm dinner will be followed by a 7pm program.
 
   Dwayne Daake, our Ne Conf. Scouting Co-ordinator, has helped to recognize Rep. Tom
Osborne with a Life Scouting Award
 
   Ken Rouch, our Ne. Conf. Treasurer for UM Men and a former Ne. Conf. treasurer, will offer
to speak at the Mid-Winter Retreat about Estate Planning, the gift that keeps on giving.
 
   Gary Spivey shared that our treasury holds $764.
 
   Website - Scott A. said it is possible to post a message on the message board of our
District website www.ummenomaha.com  and that he would be willing to teach us how at
the Mid-Winter Retreat !
 
   100 Club - Randy shared 149 new donors have contributed making 843 total. Scholarships
are given every year to help those going into fulltime Ministry.
 
   Bishop's Scouting Dinner be on January 28,'06 at First UM Church in Lincoln.
 
   100 Club Presentation - Omaha District President, Bill Stambaugh, was honored with
a 100 Club membership by Randy Fleming for the UM Men. Bill said  in ten years he would
like to join the 1000 Club !
 
   Contact Men - Dave reported some success in having a UM Men Contact guy in each Church to recieve our District news.
 
   Dennis Edwards asked for our support to attend a Leadership Conference in Texas, November 3-5. Gary motioned we help with $200. Randy seconded with a friendly ammendment that we recieve a report at the Mid-Winter Retreat. Motion carried.
 
   Next Meeting - Sprngfield UMC on December 8th at 7pm.
 
We ended with more prayer for Levi Franklin and his wife Delores.
