OMAHA UNITED METHODIST MEN DISTRICT

2005 END OF THE YEAR REPORT

www.ummenomaha.com

THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE UNITED METHODIST MEN IS TO

DECLARE THE CENTRALITY OF CHRIST IN THE LIVES OF MEN

 AND IN ALL THEIR RELATIONSHIPS.

We have had a very good year in 2005. The men in the Omaha churches began the year by moving the furnaces from inside of the lodge hall at Camp Fontanelle. Setting them on a platform that was constructed over the top of the partitions in the men’s and women’s bathrooms. Of course we had to build new air returns and extend the heating ducts to match up with the existing ones. By doing this work we have shut down the noise in the lodge from the units so that you can hear someone speaking. I want to single out several men that spent a lot of time and did a lot of the work during the five weeks to complete this job. Claude Harder, Earl Lehman and Dick Curley all from the Fremont First Church. Steve Campbell from Ashland UMC did all of the technical work. He worked for Prawl Engineering. Another man and his son from the Kennard Grace UMC and Blair UMC churches helped out immensely. They are Willis and Scott Lucht. I do believe Willie has more tools than Ace hardware.

On the 18th, 19th, & 20th of Fe.2004 We hosted the Ne. Conf. winter rally and conf. meeting Rev. Greg Hall, Fremont First UMC was our weekend Pastor. The Saturday banquet included Omaha Steaks. They were donated by a man that lives in Chicago. This was an especially great weekend for me as the men of the Nebraska Conference presented me a lifetime EMS membership. (Every Man Shares in Evangelism, Mission, and Spiritual life) I thank you all for this, God Blessed me with many friends.

The Omaha District did have mixed emotions this past year. On our own board we had two brothers that past away. This is sad for the friends and relatives that are left behind, but  we can rejoice and celebrate in knowing that Ken Miller of  St. James UMC,

Bellevue, and Levi Franklin of  Union Memoral UMC of Omaha are with the Father, the Son , and the Holy Spirit. They were two of the finest men to walk this earth. They loved their church and all who they were acquainted with.

This past summer we did a lot of work at Camp Fontanelle. We want to give special thanks to Marlene and Willie Lucht as they gifted the money to purchase all of the material used to replace the deck on the lodge. I also want to thank all of the men, women, and youth that came up and helped remove the old and install the new. There also was new siding put on the lodge.

The manager’s house also had new siding and some work done on the inside. The Omaha UMMen’s District board was not involved with that. I’m sure through, there were Methodist men involved in that project. We thank them for their labor and time.

This last July was the national conference at Purdue University. The Ne. Conf. chartered a bus to transport the Nebraska contingent. The Omaha District and the Ne. Conf. made available scholarships to deserving senior high boys, men, and Pastors. Each scholarship covered their Purdue lodging & meals plus the transportation. We gave out a total of 8 scholarships. Each worth $400.00. The Gretna UMC sent 2 youngsters. The Gretna UMMen chipped in $400.00 fro their 2 recipients and the Omaha District picked up the other $400.00. St. James of Bellevue. Union Memorial UMC and a youngster from Ralston sent one boy each. The Omaha District picked up $6oo.oo and the Ne. Conf. took care of the other $600.00. The Omaha District also had 2 very deserving men that went to Purdue on Scholarships. The Ne. Conf. and Omaha Dist. devided that $800.00 equally. Rev. Karl Lent from the Ashland UMC and Memphis Iliff Chapel has surported our district with both his presence at the meetings and his wisdom. We were very proud to award him a scholarship also. Here again the Omaha Dist. Paid $200.00 as did the conference. It was a great trip out and back. There was a lot of fellowship, singing, prayer, learning, and good programs. The next Purdue trip will be in July 2009. Start saving your change and plan for a great weekend in July 2009.

As per our organizational meeting in 2004 it was mandated to have election of officers in October of 2005. There was a motion and a second of said motion that all officers be retained if they wanted to continue on in their respective offices. All officers agreed to  stay on. Thank the Lord. Earlier in the year our original secretary, Randi Folkerts had to leave his position due to his heavy involvement with his church work at Gretna UMC. We miss him but then the Lord sent us a very good replacement in Dave Mendyk. You may have heard of this name before as he also is the Ne. Conf. Prayer Advocate.

Our webmaster, Scott Avery, is doing a great job on getting our web site up and running. Here again we lost a man, Sam Deel, who was helping out on the website, Sam had to move to Virginia due to his job. We met up with Sam at Purdue and he still receives our minutes. Scott is getting links to other websites that are of interest to our mission. If you would like to receive or link your mens web site up with ours contact Scott. His e-mail is avery@ummenomaha.com

The Omaha District is again hosting the Conference winter meeting and rally at Camp Fontanelle Fe. 17th, 18th, & 19th, 2006. Go to www.ummenomaha.com to run off an  application to attend.

On the Omaha District Board our goal is to have at least 1 man from each church in our district. If you would be interested contact one of our officers or go to the above web site to get the next date and church we will be meeting at. We rotate our meeting places as we hope to be able to meet in every district church. We have 12 churches represented on our board right now. So as you can see we have a large job ahead of us.

If you can help us it would be appreciated. God Bless
